Foundit @ the pour house: Interview and show recap

I have met the boys who make up FoundiT previously. Each time on set, each time with little interaction. They were always very sweet and always shared their weed, which goes a long way with me. Because of this, and the fact that I genuinely enjoy their music, I knew I wanted to get an interview with them.

I sat down with the lead vocalist, Jordan, on Sunday night to ask questions, mostly relating to the band’s somewhat notorious reputation for having a revolving door of band members. They recently made an announcement via Instagram (@founditrocks) about their guitarist and second vocalist, Alex, leaving the band. This was especially shocking, considering Alex is Jordan’s brother. Alex left the band with well wishes and even still helps with the band’s social media presence from time to time. He said in his post, “Jordan is my brother, and Turner (bass) is like a brother to me- and I have nothing but love and admiration for those 2.”

With this recent development in the band’s lineup up I was curious to see them live, now lacking Alex, and with a new drummer. I was also excited to learn how this bad luck with bandmates has affected the creative process, as the band has continued to steadily release music despite the recent surge of their bandmates changing.

Interview:

How has writing with FoundiT differed from writing with Still Searching?

FoundiT has been a much nicer experience; I think it helps that everyone is kinda on the same level with each other.

Does the writing process become challenging with band mates changing?

Sometimes, but mostly I write a bit of something and pass it on, then that person will write a bit and continue the chain. I’d love to go real old school with it and just have my friends in a room playing instruments.

I’ve known a lot of bands that find it challenging to keep a core group. What do you think is the reason for this happening?

I think ego gets in the way a lot. When you start getting popular, sometimes those egos collide…when other people start comparing bandmates to each other, that can add to the tension.

I also asked him if the next band was going to be called “lost it,” but someone had already made that joke to him, so I’m actually not funny after all.

As for the show itself, my expectations were greatly exceeded. I was feeling a bit nervous for the remaining two original FoundiT members.

Though they announced their new drummer a while ago, I was unsure if they had a fill-in guitarist. This question was answered as the setup was coming to a close, and I saw a new face tuning (what appeared to be) a Fender Jazzmaster.

This kid would later be introduced by Jordan as Tristan, and the energy he brought to Jordan’s lively performance was electric. Watching these two perform together was just as fun as listening to their music.

Turner, whom I’ve known as the bassist, joined Jordan in singing as second vocals and did a beautiful job. The pair’s voices sound amazing together, and while Alex’s harmonies were missed, I think Turner did well in this position.

Their new drummer, Chelsea, killed it and kept the drums tight. I would love to work on a music video with her because, from what I’ve seen on social media, she has so much fun when she’s able to let loose and play around.

The venue for this show was “The Pour House” in Raleigh. This was my first time here, and I fell in love with the atmosphere. It was grungy, back alley, but still felt safe and clean. There was graffiti lining the walls and all over the bathroom (which, btw, were also very clean and I was very thankful). The record shop upstairs was a bit more cozy, and the balcony overlooking the stage was such a fun place to hang out beforehand.

This show was fun and lively, and in the perfect place for a pop punk show.

To stay up-to-date on their upcoming shows, Instagram (@founditrocks) is going to be the place to go. Also, go check out the “i dont wanna be here” and “Over It” videos on the FoundiT YouTube channel because a very cute guy filmed and edited those (my boyfriend). And if you can’t make it to see them live, you can always stream their music (but def go see them live).
